Better Bricks Masonry services the residences and businesses

Tuck Pointing
Masonry work that is exposed to wide variances in
moisture and temperature will develop cracks. Water will penetrate these cracks
and eventually loosen the bricks. By tuck pointing these cracks with the highest
strength mortar, we can help prevent further damage.
Crown and Cap
Repair
The crown or top of the chimney can also develop cracks. These
cracks will reduce the strength of the chimney. When we reseal a damaged crown,
we only use the best masonry cement available.
Chimney
Rebuilds
Chimney rebuilds involve tearing down the existing chimney and
rebuilding a new chimney. Most chimney repairs falls under the following
categories:
- Minor rebuild
Small chimneys or only the top few rows of a
large chimney.
- Tear-down to roofline
This is required when there is so much
mortar or brick deterioration and eliminates the possibility of tuck-pointing.
The chimney is completely torn down to the roof flashing and rebuilt usually
with new brick and always with new mortar.
- Total rebuild
This involves a complete tear down of the
chimney. In most instances the firebox, hearth and smoke chamber do not have
to be removed. Total rebuilds are necessary when the chimney is leaning, no
longer desired, has severe mortar deterioration, or severe spalling.
Spalling Repairs
Spalling refers to the flaking away
of the brick surface. This happens more often with some bricks than with others.
It occurs when water in the brick freezes and expands. When this happens, the
pressure forces the face of the brick to break away.
Clay Flue Tile
Repair
The flue tiles of the chimney flue can become cracked or
off-center causing a disruption in ventilation of the smoke. We can extract the
defective flue tiles and replace them with new ones to ensure proper
ventilation.
